We saw lots of birds

We saw lots of birds.
They were eating the bird seed.
It was snowing.

While we were working in centers,
we saw birds getting in the bird houses.
They don't like the snow.
Our teacher likes the snow.
We were so excited.
The birds do like our houses.
Yay!

We wanted to see if any birds were living in our house.

We can't see into it.

It is too high for us to look in.

We will keep checking to see if any go in and out.

We saw a bird

We looked out our window, and we saw a bird!
It was close to the bird feeder.
We think it was eating.
We got really excited.
It flew away.

Birds

Some days, we get to play on the kindergarten patio.
We like to go outside and be loud.
While we are outside, we look for birds.
Mrs. Farrington said we will not see birds if we are too loud.
We wonder why.

Mrs. Voigt said we can look for birds through our window.

We have not seen any yet.

Snow

After we put up some feeders and houses, it snowed.
We had a lot of days out of school, but when we got back, the seeds were gone off our bird feeders.
We think the birds came to eat the seeds.
We hope they liked them.
We will make more soon.

Today Mr. Kyle came to hang our bird houses.
We were really excited!!

There are five trees on the Kindergarten patio.
There are five Kindergarten classes.
All the Kindergarten classes are going to get their own tree to hang their bird feeders, suet cages, and bird feeders in.

Today, while Mrs. V. worked on asking friends questions, we got started on our bird feeders.
We put Crisco on big pine cones.

Then we put bird seed on our pine cones.

Then we hung our bird feeder pine cones in our tree.

We are excited to help feed the animals in our community!

Community Service Project

Every grade level at our school has picked a project to work on during the school year.

After learning about the seasons and the changes that happened, as well as how animals interact with their surroundings, we, the Kindergarten Kids, decided we wanted to help the animals who do not migrate or hibernate. Those animals stay around where we live, and have trouble finding food.

Our Kindergarten classes read the book Animals in Winter by Henrietta Bancroft and Richard G. Van Gelder. We learned lots of information from reading that book.

We learned about animals that migrate. Animals that migrate go away for the cold winter months.

We learned about animals that hibernate. Animals that hibernate go to sleep in a cave or under ground during the winter months.

We learned that some animals don't leave. They also have a hard time finding food to eat. We decided we wanted to help. We made a list of things we would need to start our project.

Crisco (We chose not to use Peanut Butter because some of our friends are allergic to peanuts)

Our teachers gathered all the things we would need to work on the project.
